Experiences are powerful motivators. Research repeatedly shows that experiential rewards inspire stronger engagement and lasting impact – for both the person earning the reward and everyone else who watches it happen.
According to a 2018 study by Expedia and The Centre for Generational Kinetics, 74 percent of people prioritize experiences over products or things.
Their research also indicates the “Less is more” mentality is the mindset for all generations; however, travel preferences vary by generation:
In the same study, 80 percent of people said it’s helpful to book all travel and accommodation on one website and 49 percent of both Generation Z and Millennials would sell some of their clothes or furniture to save money to go on a trip.
At BI WORLDWIDE, we conducted on own research in 2018 to investigate the competitive value of travel as a recognition strategy for salespeople. It included 500 total respondents, representing five industry sectors.
Our results found that “more choices” is unquestionably the top factor for ensuring that travel awards are motivating. Also, panellists are especially enthusiastic about experienced-focused individual travel (85 percent).
